Speex este un Open Source/Free Software patent-free format pentru compresie audio proiectat pentru vorbire. Proiectul Speex isi propune sa usureze dezvoltarea aplicatiilor pentru voce. Mai mult decat atat, Speex se poate utiliza in aplicatii web.

Speex este bazat pe CELP(Code-Excited Linear Prediction)  si este proiectat sa compreseze vocea la bitrates intre 2 si 44 kbps.
